UPDATE

VOLUME 20 - BULLETIN #260

TO:

ALL CLEARING MEMBERS

FROM:

BUSINESS SYSTEMS GROUP

DATE:

September 1, 2000

SUBJECT:

Alliance/CBOT/Eurex (a/c/e) Helpful Hints

The following is a list of helpful hints for trades executed on the Alliance/CBOT/Eurex (a/c/e) platform.

Exchange Codes

All a/c/e trades will be processed under exchange 01.

Record IDs

All a/c/e trades will have record ID numbers assigned by the Clearing Corporation. The record ID range will be 60000 and 74999.

Card Order

Card order numbers provided by the a/c/e platform contain nine characters (e.g. 123456789.) These characters populate positions 132 and 122 through 129 respectively of the TREX record. Clearing uses the last four characters, positions 126 through 129 of the TREX record to populate the card order field in OTIS Trade Inquiry/Update screens and the Trade Register Report and Datafile (e.g. 6789.)

Electronic Trading System Codes

All screens and reports that list trades under PJA, Proj A, or Project A have been replaced with ‘ETS’ (for Electronic Trading System). In addition, the Trade ID Source Code (positions 146 to 148) and the Business Cycle Code (positions 180 to 184) in the TREX Main Block will contain a value of ‘ETS’ for a/c/e trades.

The Session Indicator field on the Trade Register Datafile will be ‘X’ for all a/c/e trades. No other fields on the Trade Register Datafile will change.

Real-Time Feeds

The Clearing Corporation will no longer create automatic hourly and end-of-session RJE duplication files of electronic trades. Firms will receive pre-edited real time feeds of a/c/e trades via MQ Series in the TREX record format. All firms will be turned on to receive real-time feeds. Firms that do not wish to receive the feeds should contact the Business Systems group at the numbers listed below. The elimination of Remote Job Entry (RJE) is necessary to support the implementation of the Clearing Corporation’s new customer network.

Because the trades will be sent to firms before they have passed the Clearing edit process, there is a possibility that firms may have trades in bookkeeping that edit in Clearing. Firms should check the Options Transaction Edit Report (TER00001X) and the Futures Transaction Edit Report (TER00014X) to view any edited trades.

The real-time feeds will begin shortly after 10:00 P.M. with trades designated as exchange 01. Due to the timeframe during which this trade information is generated and the exchange designation, firms are cautioned to make sure these trades are excluded from the current day’s bookkeeping processing schedule.

Account Number Justification and Masking on Real-time Feeds

The a/c/e trading platform allows for the entry of a twelve character account e.g. (111111111122). Clearing only recognizes a ten character account, therefore positions 109 through 118 of the TREX record will be populated with the first 10 characters e.g. (1111111111). Customer account numbers will NOT be masked or right or left justified before they are sent to firms in the real time feeds.

Account type code defaults on Real-time feeds

Trades executed through the a/c/e platform using the account type code of M1 will default to origin 1 for futures and origin 4 for options. Trades executed through the a/c/e platform using account type code M2 will default to origin 2 for futures and origin 3 for options. The CTI default for M1 and M2 transactions is 1.

In addition, firms can change the defaulted origin and CTI codes by submitting a change record via MQM or by accessing the trade in OTIS inquiry/Update screen and entering the change.

Trading Hours and Exchange Code

The trading hours for the a/c/e platform will be 10:00 P.M. until 4:00 P.M. the next day, Sunday through Friday. Trades executed after 10:00 P.M. will be for the next business day: for example, a trade entered at 11:00 P.M. on the 15th will have a trade date of the 16th.

Coding a/c/e transactions as Auto-allocation Giveups

Users can designate trades to be Giveups in the a/c/e trade entry screens. Firms that want to designate their Giveups as auto-allocated to a/c/e member firms must enter the claiming firm’s member ID which consists of their Clearing firm number followed by a two character designation. A list of those values, which are maintained by a/c/e, is attached. Updates to this list will be posted on the Clearing Corporation web site at www.botcc.com. A separate section for Eurex has been created which includes the a/c/e give-up Firm Identifier List. Giveups to non-a/c/e firms must contain the firm number followed by ‘CH’. Firms should contact the claiming firm to determine the appropriate Member I.D. to be used when allocating trades.

Claiming of Give-up a/c/e transactions

Firms should be aware that the claiming of a/c/e transactions and changes to non-critical match fields of claimed a/c/e transactions must be completed by the 7:00P.M. clearing deadline. Changes to claimed a/c/e transactions submitted after 7:00P.M. via Give-up Application Program Interface (GAPI) or made through OTIS Give-up Claim screens will not be accepted.

Give-up Duplication Request of a/c/e transactions

Firms not set up to receive real time give-up duplications via mqm will need to manually request duplication files through Remote Job Entry (RJE) or through the OTIS Give Up Selection Menu by placing an “X” in the ETS indicator field and selecting option #5 “Transaction Duplication”. Firms that would like to be set-up to receive ALL give-up transactions via mqm should contact the Business Systems Group at the numbers listed below.

Settlement Price and SPAN Array Files

Settlement prices for pit traded products that also trade on a/c/e will be determined using the same method that exists today, with pit committee input. However, if a new

contract month or strike trades between the close of the pit and the close of trading on a/c/e/ at 4:00 p.m. or if there is a product that only trades on a/c/e, settlement price determination will be based on electronic trading activity. The process used by a/c/e to determine and distribute settlement prices to Clearing can take up to 75 minutes after the close of trading at 4:00 p.m. Therefore, the settlement price file that is currently available between 4:30 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. will be available between 4:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m.

As SPAN Arrays calculations require settlement price input, array availability will also be impacted. The array file that is currently available at 5:00 p.m. will be available at approximately 6:00 p.m.
