New Customer Network Helpful Hints

Helpful Hints for Test and Production Implementations

With BOTCC’s Customer Network

Telnet / TN3270 Sessions

• There is a problem when using a Telnet Mod 5 session through the AS400. This affects the 132 column screens that BOTCC uses with OTIS. (Telnet PTF SF63315 - Version 4.3 of the AS400 Operating System and PTF SF63764 for Version 4.4.) These PTFs are now available for General Release. Please contact your IBM Business Representative for more information on receiving the PTF needed.

FTP

• There is a known problem using normal syntax when performing FTPs from the AS400. The work around is to use triple quotes around the file name. IBM has an APAR (SA77190) that will allow normal conventions to be used.

• To access a directory of files, type the following command after logging on via FTP

dir “chpd.tr.cbt???.*”

??? = firm number

Network

• Firewalls must be opened to allow traffic to flow inbound and outbound.

MQM

• The listener program on the AS400 must be running to receive data from BOTCC. Because it affects the TRADOUT queue, this program should be started when the AS400 is brought up.

• After the Member Firm has converted to production, the LU6.2 device on the AS400 should be varied offline.

IP Printing

• The AS400 can be used as an IP Printer and accept data into its spooler. BOTCC can use Output Queues to segment printouts on the AS400 spooler. When using an AS400 to print a report from Infopac, you may need to change the code to the standard ANSI codes to avoid misalignment of the report. Infopac embeds machine control characters to the header of all reports, which may cause a problem with an AS400.

• IP printers that are used for printing reports from both the Member Firms’ LAN and BOTCC may encounter problems related to print sharing. A dedicated printer would eliminate this problem.

• There is a limitation to use only one Print Queue/Output Queue for each printer (IP Address).

• Some IP printers do not remove reports from their queues after printing, which does not allow additional reports to print. This is caused because acknowledgements are not sent back to VPS (BOTCC’s printing software) after completing the printing of a report. Since VPS does not know when the printed report has completed, there is a false representation that the printed report was never sent. It is suggested that the Member Firm use one of the printers listed below: (www.lrs.com/epm/ptrreviews.htm)

n Genicom 7916R Plus

n HP LaserJet 5M

n HP LaserJet 4000TN

n IBM 3130-02d

n Lexmark Optra Lx

n QMS 2425

n Xerox DocuPrint 4517

• In the case that a PC or printer is either added to our network or has changed locations, the Clearing Corporation must be notified about the change. Please submit the old IP address and the new IP address to BSG to allow the new equipment to be functional with the customer network. Please allow a three day turnaround time for the new IP address to be connected.

** IT IS IMPORTANT TO TEST ALL PRINTERS BEFORE USING THEM IN A PRODUCTION PROCESS. All printers should be tested for batch reports Infopac reports to classify them production quality.

• TCP/IP printing does not support the use of forms control. IBM does not support forms control using TCP/IP on the AS400.

WEB – ACCESS TO RESOURCES

• A member firm can connect to the Customer Network web pages through the Internet or through the Customer network. If a member firm uses the Internet to access the web pages, then no changes need to be made. If they want to access the web pages through the Customer Network, then the member firm will have to add static routes on one or more routers on their network. The static route will direct traffic destined for BOTCC’s network to the interface of the router that BOTCC has deployed at each member firm’s site.

• Member firms should not add name server entries for any of BOTCC’s resources as these addresses may change without warning. To resolve fully qualified domain names (FQDN) for the web pages listed below, member firms can add entries on their name servers or rely on BOTCC’s name servers. A member firm does not have to make any changes in order for BOTCC’s public name server to resolve names through the Internet. BOTCC will provide a private name server that can be accessed through the Customer Network and will only contain the host names listed below. A member firm can use BOTCC’s name server as a primary name server, a secondary name server or a name server forwarder. For detailed technical information regarding IP Addressing, Ports and DNS names contact the BSG group at the Board of Trade Clearing Corporation.
