CLIENT SERVICES AND SUPPORT

DATE:

July 3, 2002

SUBJECT:

Portable Media Testing

The Board of Trade of Clearing Corporation has begun providing, on a quarterly basis, trade information on portable media (e.g. CD or diskette) that firms can use to test their disaster recovery procedures (please refer to Volume 22 - Bulletin #135 for DR testing by File Transfer via the Internet). Trade information including a/c/e trades, give-up allocations and claims, and SLEDS legs from a selected business day will be saved and offered to the clearing members on one of several back-up media. Firms will be required to indicate what data they wish to receive and on what type of media . Trade data will be provided in the TREX record format.

Portable Media disaster recovery testing will be offered for the business day of Wednesday, July 17, 2002. In order to participate in this quarterly test, firms are required to complete and turn in the attached request form to Client Services and Support no later then Monday, July 15, 2002. The test data from July 17 will be available for pick-up at the Clearing Corporation by participating firms on Tuesday, July 23.

The following portable media can be used for DR testing

• 3490 Cartridge, must be provided by the firm.

• PC Diskette 3.5” HD, will be provided by the Clearing Corporation.

• Compact Disk Recordable (CD-R), will be provided by the Clearing Corporation.

The formatting and labeling is as follows:

3490 Cartridge:

• Firm must provide 3490 cartridge.

• Firm to provide outside label specifying firm name, number, contact person and phone number.

• Clearing Corporation to provide outside label specifying trade date, block size, record length and record count.

• The cartridge tape will be non-labeled.

• Record length will be greater than or equal to184 bytes.

• Block size will be a multiple of the record size.

• Record format will be fixed block.

PC Diskettes and CDs:

• Clearing Corporation to provide outside label specifying firm name and number, trade date, block size, record length and record count.

• Record length greater than or equal to184 bytes.

• File format should be ASCII text.

When retrieving the data from the diskettes/ CDs, all files may be found in the folder entitled with the firms’ clearing number. All files will be in the format specified above and each trade type will have its own specific file. Below is a list of the possible file names and what they contain:

ETSACE.TXT = a/c/e trades

GIVEUPS.TXT = Give-up trades

OTISMQM.TXT = firm entered trades

OTISTRADES.TXT = OTIS® trades

OTISBOTH.TXT = Both firm entered and OTIS entered trades

SLEDS.TXT = SLED’s

ACT.TXT = ACT™ trades

If a file does not exist on the media, there were no trades available to copy for the business day requested.

Please note, in the event that a real DR situation occurs for your firm, the File Transfer system via the Internet or the Portable Media choice maybe a solution for your firm to send and receive trade data. Contact you CSS representative, who will start the process for your firm to utilize either or both systems.
